“An art lovers paradise!”
The late billionaire J. Paul Getty allocated a generous share of his wealth to fund this museum, and that money was used thoughtfully and elegantly. If you enjoy Old Master paintings, Impressionist works, or Surrealist art, you will find top examples here. Situated on a hill above upscale Bel-Air with views reaching the Pacific Ocean, this striking white stone building imported from Italy is surrounded by lovely gardens and is stunning to see. And that is only the outside! Inside, there is a vast collection of remarkable art from around the globe. I can guarantee you will be glad to include this destination in your travel plans. If you have extra time, drive to the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu to visit the Getty Villa, an Italianate estate that was originally Mr. Getty's home and now part of the museum.

“Spectacular”
The grounds and gardens are stunning. I brought my mom here recently, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. It's one of the truly great museums worldwide. She was in a wheelchair, and the entire experience was comfortable and easy to navigate.

“Just OK for me”
I feel almost controversial giving an art museum only 3 stars, but in my opinion, The Getty doesn't qualify as a world-class art museum. First, the location atop a mountain feels exclusive and snobbish. Second, the architecture seems cold and clinical. Third, the art is mainly classical pieces, which aren't my preference. Sorry, but I wasn't impressed by The Getty.

“NOT the NY Metropolitan but great!”
A trip to the Los Angeles area is incomplete without visiting the Getty. They also have an excellent restaurant. GO!
