Sparks Gallery occupies the historic Sterling Hardware Building in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, showcasing contemporary art exclusively by San Diego and Southern California artists. Owner and curator Sonya Sparks opened the space in 2013 and reopened after a major renovation in 2015 that restored original wood floors and brick walls while adding a mezzanine, catering kitchen, and elevator. The gallery leans toward surreal and impressionistic works, with rotating solo, collaborative, and curated exhibitions.
The venue doubles as a private event space with capacity for 348 guests. Hours are limited: Monday, Thursday, and Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 11am-7pm, and Sunday 2pm-5pm. It's straight-friendly but a natural stop for queer art lovers exploring the Gaslamp. Balboa Park's museums are a short drive away if you want to make a day of it.
