Mary's
Dancing · Karaoke · Atlanta, GA
About
A campy, hipster dive that draws a mixed crowd of 20-somethings and 30-somethings for dancing and karaoke. It's part video bar, part neighborhood bar, and part hipster bar. The space is small, so expect it to get packed, especially on weekends. But nosiness is part of the charm.
Karaoke nights here are especially fun, though the crowd might be a bit handsy when it's full. The Boozy Cougar upstairs offers a less crowded escape with a view of the shenanigans below. You'll find a varied crowd: hipsters, preps, daddies, twinks, all welcome. No pretense, just come as you are.

“Neve experienced gridlock in a bar before”
I visited a few times with friends, and it was always packed to the point where you could barely move. Getting a drink took up to ten minutes, and using the bathroom was a nightmare. Aside from that, it's a nice spot with attractive people, but be prepared if you go on a weekend.

“Friendly Crowd”
Several patrons approached me and made me feel welcome, even from people I don't usually expect that from. This is definitely the most friendly bar in Atlanta.

Good blend of friendly people and a laid-back, no-attitude atmosphere.

“Hipster bar in the alternative part of town”
It's a mix of video bar, neighborhood bar, and hipster bar. A small spot in a cool area. Probably not for out-of-towners since it's off the main path, but its karaoke night is a blast. Because the bar is small, when it's crowded, watch out for wandering hands. The downside is it's very smoky, but that's typical for Atlanta since there's no smoking ban yet.

“hole in the wall, but in the best kind of way”
Always a good time, with different themes each night. Great music and dancing on Friday and Saturday. The Boozy Cougar upstairs is less crowded and you can see the fun happening below. The crowd is very mixed - hipsters, preps, daddies, twinks. No attitude, which is a nice change for a gay bar. Come as you are! My favorite bar in Atlanta.
