The Phoenix is open 24 hours a day, every day, making it a reliable stop at any point during a New Orleans night out. This leather and bear institution has been around since 1983, and it's the command center for local clubs like the Lords of Leather and the Cavaliers Motorcycle Club. There's no cover charge ever, and drinks are strong and cheap. They claim the largest beer selection of any gay bar in the city, with 16 taps and 50 bottles.
Downstairs it's a casual neighborhood bar with pool tables, outdoor seating, and a smoking area. Upstairs is the Eagle, a dimly lit play space that draws a more adventurous crowd after dark. The in-house store COK sells gear and underwear seven days a week. Regulars know the block parties during Southern Decadence are legendary. Marigny location puts it a walk from Bourbon but off the main tourist drag -- it's worth the trip.

“Always a good time!”
A welcoming spot with excellent bartenders where anyone can feel comfortable. Local clubs and groups host events on weekends, so there's always something entertaining. Drink prices are very reasonable. It attracts a leather and Levi crowd of all ages. Open 24/7, the late-night hours draw thrill-seekers, particularly upstairs in the Eagle.

It's refreshing not to feel obligated to take someone home if you don't want to. I've had amazing times there during carnival. I have a huge crush on daddy Don—marry me!

“One of My All-Time FAVS with FUN Times to br Had”
After I finish watching, feeling, and tipping the cocks at the Corner Pocket, I come here and go upstairs for the real fun. Other than Touche in Chicago, this is my favorite bar in the U.S. No pretension, just a cock-in-your-face atmosphere that guarantees a perfect party—after all, it's not a party until everyone cums, right?

“one of the best places to visit”
I didn't get to spend as much time here as at other bars in the city, which brings me to my only negative comment. This bar is a bit out of the way if you're staying near Bourbon St. Catching a cab there was quite easy after Mardi Gras ended, but during Mardi Gras with the crowds, you'd want to wait until later, by which time you've already settled into other bars. That said, if my biggest complaint was just getting there, you should know I loved this place once we finally made it. The staff and patrons were extremely friendly. Drinks were cheap and very strong. The upstairs bar is where all the action happens, and believe me, action happens—from a guy seated next to me at the bar naked who politely reached around to welcome me to New Orleans, to all the other patrons behind the little walls that divide the space between the bar and the play area. Sadly, we only had one night here, but when we come back to New Orleans, this will be our go-to bar.
