Front Porch Piano Bar
Piano Bar · Cocktail Lounge · Ogunquit, ME
About
One of the few remaining piano bars in New England, this Ogunquit institution has been a happy place for all since 1977. Under Wayne Wescott's ownership, the aesthetic shifted from low brow to high brow a couple years ago, expanding programming to include comedians alongside the piano entertainment. It's a mixed gay and straight crowd, with a classy cocktail lounge vibe upstairs.
The kitchen closes at 11, so arrive early if you want dinner. Thursday through Saturday are the busiest nights; the place packs early. You'll find it on the second floor near Ogunquit Square, with dog-friendly outdoor seating and full bar service. If you want a different vibe, MaineStreet is just down the street.

“Str8 iz the new Gay”
I visited at the end of the previous season and I was the only gay person there. A tuxedo would have felt underdressed. I definitely wouldn't call this a gay bar at all. It felt exactly like walking into any straight restaurant across the country. I felt like I was being judged and scrutinized the whole time. It's an upper middle class and middle class straight crowd, uptight, overly chic, so trendy it made me wonder if they thought being straight was the new gay. Unfortunately my family will bring me back since they love it. They don't understand that a gay bar is special because it's the one place you can be free from the pressure of adapting to straight people.

“Great Experience”
This second-floor piano bar is a lot of fun, nicely decorated, and you should arrive early. It was crowded both nights we went. The crowd is mixed but mostly gay and very welcoming. Service was great, the servers were attractive, and the singing was entertaining. A surprisingly nice spot in a resort town.

“One of the main staples of an Ogunquit experience!”
I've dined downstairs in the restaurant and also had drinks upstairs while enjoying the lively piano bar entertainment. If you're visiting Ogunquit, I strongly suggest stopping by the Front Porch.

“average”
At 11:30 there were only 10 people. The kitchen closes at 11. They're aiming for a clean, classy atmosphere and they succeed. The bartender is rude. Still, this is probably the third best bar in town. Go to Maine Street instead, they are much friendlier.
