About
O.Henry's has a comforting, low-key atmosphere that feels like a local hangout. Known as the longest running gay bar in North Carolina (established 1976), it was renovated in 2014 and now has a lodge-like interior with a friendly, casual vibe. The bar also features a separate industrial dance bar in the back called The Underground, giving you two venues under one roof. It's where locals and travelers mix, especially on weekends when the crowd skews 30s to 50s.
You'll find strong drinks, a pool table, and daily specials like $3.50 Bloody Marys on Sunday. Open every day from 4pm to 2am, it's a reliable spot for a relaxed night out. The full bar and outdoor seating make it easy to settle in.
Located in downtown Asheville, O.Henry's is within walking distance of other nightlife spots.

This was my first gay bar experience, so I'm biased. I've had many great memories here with friends and guys I've met over the years. It has a small-town gay bar feel with lots of locals. The atmosphere is relaxed and perfect for chatting with one or two friends; most people I meet are friendly and easy to talk to. Nowadays, it's the only place in town that actually feels like it has a decent gay crowd, especially on weekends and for events, so it's my only choice if I want a gay environment. It's not upscale, but it's low-key and homey with patrons of all ages. Strong drinks.

“Southern Comfort?”
I was visiting for the weekend of July 25 and 26, 2015, and after reading reviews, I decided to stop by O'Henry's for an afternoon drink. As I approached the entrance, I noticed a white Toyota Prius parked near the front with a Confederate flag draped on it. While I respect everyone's right to express their beliefs, as an African-American man, this made me uncomfortable, so I chose to go elsewhere. I'm posting this so other African-American patrons are aware.

I went for the first time last night and what a night it was! I don't go out much and don't know many people in town, but everyone was so welcoming. $3.50 Bloody Marys on Sundays are amazing!
