Badlands Las Vegas

Country Western · Dancing · Las Vegas, NV

About

For anyone wanting a cheap, friendly drink in a country-western setting, Badlands delivers. This 24-hour neighborhood bar in Southeast Las Vegas has a jukebox heavy on country, regulars who keep personal mugs behind the bar, and drag shows on Fridays and Sundays. The vibe is low-key and welcoming, with a mix of 30s-40s locals and a disco ball over the dance floor.

Drinks are tall and affordable, with well drinks for $2 on Saturdays if you sign up for texts. Drop in before heading to First Friday or wind down after a late movie. It's close to other spots like The Garage, but Badlands stands on its own as a cheap, laid-back hangout.

Located in the Commercial Center complex in Southeast Las Vegas, not far from the Arts District and First Friday events.

I visited about a year ago just before midnight on a Saturday. Badlands is located in the same strip center as Hawk's Gym. There is no cover charge. The bar is on the left as you enter, high tables in the middle, and low tables and a banquette on the right. Behind that is the dance floor area with high seating and bar around it, a shiny disco ball overhead, tables and chairs against the left wall, and four video screens. Table service is available. I paid $5.50 for a rum and coke, and the bartender used pet names like 'baby doll' with a Southern drawl. The crowd was mostly older men, no go-go dancers. Service was a bit slow but drinks were made carefully and were tall. There were four video screens upfront, three playing videos and one showing baseball. Badlands is fairly low-key but affordable with good drinks. I would likely return. Parking was easy.

“Nice”

Count your change promptly. Otherwise, it's the most affordable spot to drink in the Commercial Center area, with drag shows on Friday and Sunday. If you sign up for text messages online and show the bartender, you can get $2 well drinks on Saturday. Check the website for other deals and times. Cheers.

“Nice place to hang out a while, but not a destination”

Badlands is a good place to meet friends for a drink before going somewhere else, like First Friday, or to relax after a movie. It's not the kind of place where people say they stay all night. The staff is friendly and skilled. There's a good selection of bottled beers that might be overlooked on a side shelf. Customers are laid-back and friendly but not very social. There are bar stools for individuals and some booths for groups. I visited on Latin Night but didn't see any Latino guys. Badlands is a decent bar to hang out for a while, chat a bit with strangers, and then move on.
