The venue is fine overall, and it's definitely the premier gay bar in the city. However, it took the staff 30 minutes to tell my friend and me that their tablet system had incorrectly flagged her identification. When we tried to point out it might be a technical glitch since it's a government-issued REAL ID that had just been scanned successfully at a grocery store an hour earlier, a staff member called her a bitch—apparently because computers can't possibly make mistakes. I've been there a few times before, and I understand they're being cautious about fakes, but it's not okay to call people names just because their equipment can't verify a federally compliant REAL ID. Online research suggests that older software might sometimes have trouble with REAL IDs, but that doesn't mean they're fake or justify staff getting loud and insulting. Happy Pride! Update: The exact same ID was scanned and accepted at another bar an hour later, so clearly the issue was with Play Dance's equipment.

“My favorite place to go”

I absolutely adore this spot. The staff are incredibly attractive, the drag performances are phenomenal, and it's the only place in the city where you can really dance. If you've never been, you're missing out.

“nice!”

I'm from Los Angeles and was visiting recently. I was really impressed – a very nice club with good, inexpensive drinks compared to the average $12 I pay for a cocktail in West Hollywood.
