The Sun Trapp (Closed Temporarily)

I moved to Utah specifically to take over the Friday night DJ gig because they couldn't find local talent. The manager is the most unprofessional person I've ever dealt with! They never signed the contract, canceled my move as they were picking me up, and instead flew me in the day of my performance with just a small bag, promising to get my stuff later. A month later, I'm still buying clothes to wear that I didn't DJ in. Last weekend, the manager was in the booth adjusting the sound and equalizer during my entire set, constantly in my way! That should be handled outside of hours! He ended up blowing the speakers, and when the sound cut out after me tripping over him, he vanished. He then claimed patrons complained the music was too loud and said not to red-line the equipment, which I didn't. I'd had enough and pointed out they drastically need to improve their online presence. They never announced hiring a new DJ—no flyers, nothing! There's more, but due to our clash and me not tolerating his crap, he fired me. This is the worst I've ever been screwed over. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy, who apparently manages it now. Other reviews mention rude staff, and I don't blame them, but I feel sorry for them. They really did me dirty. Being LGBTQ and treated so poorly by your own community is shameful. People like that won't get my support or business. UPDATE: If anyone thought Gaysic82's review wasn't another unethical move by SunTrapp to save face and damage my reputation, I'm sure it is. At least make it believable! No patron review specifically targets another patron's review. Have integrity. I believe good will prevail and those practicing evil will fail. I have nothing more to say about other fake patron reviews against me.

I love the SunTrapp. Every Friday and Saturday night the dance floor is packed with great music until 2am. Bartenders are quick and efficient with drinks. Door staff always greet you when you enter and say goodbye when you leave. If there's ever an issue, security and management handle it properly to keep everyone safe. Management has made a huge difference, like adding a bar on the patio so we don't have to go inside when smoking. They've also cleaned up the drug trafficking that was a problem. My friends and I love DJ Dante and DJ Naomi because they play danceable music and take requests—unlike the last DJ who only played what he wanted and was rude if you tried to request a song. I'm glad he's gone. Keep it up, SunTrapp. The community loves you and your staff.

I used to come here often and enjoyed it, but I had better experiences as a white person. I witnessed racist behavior from staff. Once, a friend wearing a 'Black Queer Magic' shirt was told by the bouncer 'Black Dicks Matter,' which is not okay. That same night, a staff member ripped off my friend's headwrap as a joke. This is racially insensitive. The staff has also been transphobic, enforcing a bathroom policy requiring use of the 'right' restroom and telling visibly trans patrons to wear less revealing clothing, a rule never applied to cis people. The music is good and I've met great people, but after these experiences, I no longer go. It's on lists of unsafe places for trans people, especially trans people of color.

“Salt Lake City's gay Social Club”

After years living abroad and in the States, I can say Salt Lake City has one of the best gay social clubs in the Sun Trapp. From the owner Frank to the many attractive bar captains like Johnny Disco, Mike, Riley, Steve, Trapper, and Tim, you feel welcome. The local gay community is warm and inviting. If you visit SLC, you must check out the Trapp. Sundays offer a great barbecue for a fee with real home cooking, with proceeds going to good causes. Stop by and have a Long Island!
