El Mirasol Villas

Resort · Palm Springs, CA

About

Reviewers note the Old Palm Springs atmosphere, when movie stars lounged about the pools. Built by Howard Hughes in the 1940s, El Mirasol Villas is the oldest gay resort in Palm Springs. Set in the Warm Sands neighborhood, this men-only, clothing-optional resort offers two pools, a jacuzzi, and a eucalyptus steam room. Spanish-style walkways connect the rooms, and a continental breakfast is included daily.

The vibe is relaxed and social — you can find solitude or meet other guests. Owners Paul and Bruce keep rates affordable. Some rooms are near the unheated pool and ice machine, so you may want to request a quieter spot. The resort is walking distance from Palm Springs nightlife, but many guests prefer to stay put.

Located in the Warm Sands neighborhood, one of Palm Springs's most popular gay-friendly areas, just blocks from nightlife.

“Great for couples”

The friendliest, most relaxing atmosphere I've found in Palm Springs. My partner and I keep returning. The owners are hilarious and very accommodating, and the manager is a lot of fun. If you're single, it might be even better depending on who else is staying. I've never found a more comfortable place. Can't wait to go back.

“Relax and Unwind”

It feels like stepping back in time to the classic Palm Springs era when movie stars relaxed by the pools. The owners offer a variety of rooms at reasonable rates. There are two pools, a large hot tub, a steam room, and complimentary breakfast every morning. I have visited El Mirasol five times and always had a great experience. I've met some men, several of whom have become lasting friends. So if you need a place to rest and recharge, this is it. You can enjoy quiet time alone or connect with friendly people, whichever you prefer.

“My favorite place”

This is my absolute favorite place to stay. It's a bit pricey, but every time we try a cheaper option, we're disappointed. It feels very classy. The casitas are fantastic.

“SAFETY LAST”

Don't be fooled by any historic appeal. These old stucco bungalows were built by Howard Hughes in the 1940s, and not even Harold Lloyd would have stayed here. My room was on a side without the heated pool and close to the ice machine. Two water heaters near my room made loud noises through the pipes all night, preventing sleep. Worse, I was awake at 4 AM when someone used a key to enter my room without permission. Stay far away from El Mirasol.

“A Little too Quiet for Me”

The architecture is interesting. My room and the grounds were clean. It might be a good choice for older travelers, but it was too quiet for me.
