About

Unlike most downtown San Diego hotels, The Sofia combines historic character with modern amenities, including a spa and 24-hour yoga center. Built in 1926 as the Pickwick Hotel, this boutique property offers small but well-organized rooms with premium bedding, flat-screen TVs, refrigerators, and microwaves.

The hotel's location is steps from downtown businesses and the San Diego Convention Center, making it a practical choice for business travelers. While rooms border on tiny, they're thoughtfully designed. You'll find it's a short ride to the airport and Hillcrest's LGBTQ+ scene. Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is another option if you prefer a coastal setting.

“Historic Hotel Updated With Style”

Originally constructed as the Pickwick Hotel in 1926, this property maintains much of its historic charm while offering the conveniences of a modern boutique hotel. The rooms are compact, some bordering on very small, and many face an air shaft, but they are efficiently laid out with features you'd expect in a pricier property like high-end bedding, a flat-screen television, a refrigerator, and a microwave. Situated downtown, it's a quick bus, trolley, or cab ride to the airport, Hillcrest, and most other tourist spots.
