About

Open daily from 9am to 8pm, Black Bear Inn operates like a welcoming lodge where you can truly relax. This gay-owned South Lake Tahoe B&B won Best New Construction when it opened in 1998. With only five lodge rooms and four cabins on site, it feels intimate and private. The property appeared on HGTV, a UK travel show, and The Bachelor.

New owners Rachel and Greg took over in 2017, updating everything and adding a petite wine bar. The hot tub gazebo is surrounded by pine trees. Guests rave about the large showers and in-room fireplaces. It's one of the few gay-owned accommodations in Tahoe, making it a natural choice for queer travelers. For more outdoor fun, nearby Homewood Mountain Resort offers skiing and hiking.

“Total Romantic Stay”

David and I absolutely adored this place. We stayed in the Fallen Leaf room and quickly noticed the shower was big enough for two. The hosts were fantastic, and since it wasn't busy, they recommended we use the hot tub after dark and showed us how to turn off the lights out there. Oh my god, it was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. We were the only gay couple there that day, but it's gay-owned and very accepting.

“GREAT B&B”

A lovely, peaceful, well-equipped inn. Pleasant staff and charming gay owners. I enjoy snuggling into the Ralph Lauren bedding and watching the fireplace with my partner.
