Best Western Plus Hawthorne Terrace

Hotel · Chicago, IL

About

Step inside the ivy-covered brick walls of this Best Western and you'll find a surprisingly intimate hotel. With only 51 rooms and suites, the staff has time to know your name. The decor is understated but comfortable, with a traditional lobby and complimentary breakfast served each morning. Clientele is mixed gay and straight, but the hotel is a known favorite among same-gender couples visiting Boystown.

You're three blocks from the Halsted Street bars and about 500 feet from The Closet, a lesbian/gay bar. The hotel reopened after a full renovation in 2010, adding a whirlpool and sauna that guests consistently praise. Rooms include microfridges, plush beds, and opening windows. Parking is available in an adjacent ramp. It's a solid value for the location.

The hotel sits in Northalsted, Chicago's historic Boystown neighborhood, known for its concentration of LGBTQ+ bars and nightlife along Halsted Street.

“Do not stay here”

This hotel has really declined. They no longer offer do not disturb signs, and housekeeping is noisy, yelling in the hallways and knocking on doors repeatedly all day. The staff and management don't seem to care about guests.

“Great Solution”

My boyfriend and I stayed here for three days after a conference in Chicago. The hotel is gay-friendly, with a mixed clientele but a noticeable number of same-gender couples. The staff are attentive, the property is well-kept, and the location is great with many restaurants, coffee shops, and diners within walking distance. The exercise room is better than many in higher-priced hotels, and the hot tub is excellent—we used it several times during our stay. Though we had a car, it's not necessary to get around Boystown. Overall, this place offers great value for the money.

“Love it”

This is the best place to stay in Boystown. If you can afford it, definitely get one of the double king suites—it's awesome.

“Can't beat the location, quality, cleanliness, and service!”

From either airport, take the Orange Line north to Addison/Wrigley Field, then it's about ten city blocks (four Chicago blocks) to the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace. The hotel was fully renovated and expanded in 2009/2010, with understated decor, a traditional lobby, and complimentary breakfast. Make time for the whirlpool and sauna—they were also renovated, are very clean, and very relaxing. It's three blocks (one Chicago block) from the Halstead Street bars, about 500 feet from The Closet (a gay/lesbian bar), and next to an affordable sushi and Chinese restaurant. The front desk staff know the area well and are very helpful; with only 51 rooms and suites, they can give guests attention. Parking is available in the adjacent contract ramp. All rooms have microfridges, free WiFi, plush beds, windows that open, large closets, in-room safes, and complimentary bottled water. In my opinion, there's no better hotel at this price in Boystown/Wrigleyville.
