Crowne Plaza Hotel

Cocktail Lounge · Indianapolis, IN

About

What makes Crowne Plaza Hotel in Indianapolis different from other downtown hotels is that you can actually sleep in a refurbished train car. Housed inside the historic Union Station building, this hotel offers an experience you won't find elsewhere. The aesthetic is unique, with life-size all-white statues of historical figures scattered throughout the property. One reviewer described the atmosphere as "creepy" and more suited for a museum than a hotel. The hotel features a cocktail lounge, restaurant, swimming pool, and gym.

If you're a history buff with a love for railroad stations, this place might charm you. But if you're seeking pure relaxation, the reviews suggest it falls short. The staff was described as gloomy, and rooms as stuffy. For a more conventional stay, you might consider the Omni Severin Hotel nearby. Check hours and reviews before booking.

“GREAT PLACE for a field trip to a museum”

The place may have a lot of history, but it feels like too much for a spot meant for relaxation. The lavender scent, blindfolds, earplugs, and relaxation CDs are nice touches, but they don't remove the creepy vibe. There are life-sized white statues everywhere, presumably of historical figures, which reminds me of the biblical story of turning into pillars of salt. If you've heard that, you get it; if not, visiting here might feel like Sunday school. The rooms are stuffy, gloomy (like most of the staff), and creepy. This should be a museum, not a hotel. Indianapolis has better hotels for any occasion; unless you're a historian who loves train stations, skip Crowne Plaza.
