About

Bar: Full bar

The single most distinctive fact about Hash House A Go Go is its tagline: huge servings of "twisted farm food." This Hillcrest spot serves enormous portions of American comfort food with creative flair. Think sage fried chicken, giant pancakes, and hashes. It's a fun, funky space with an intimate setting. The crowd is diverse and lively. You'll want your camera for the presentation.

Reservations are accepted, which is smart because it gets packed on weekends. The hours are limited: weekday mornings until 2pm, weekends until 3pm. So plan for breakfast or brunch only. There's a full bar if you need a Bloody Mary with your towering hash. And yes, you can bring your dog on the outdoor patio.

My hash was undercooked; I could still see a lot of the clear, gooey part.

“You have to try this place”

Just make sure you have a container for leftovers because you'll definitely want them after hitting the bars. The food is amazing in both portion size and flavor. We ate dinner there and then returned for breakfast. Bring your camera to show off to friends back home.

“Great neighborhood find!”

The portions are huge and the presentation is gorgeous, plus the food is delicious. A cozy spot with good service. While visiting San Diego, we found this place by chance while driving up 5th Avenue away from the busy area and limited parking near the Gaslamp Quarter. It was a great discovery.
