I am an 80-year-old veteran and longtime customer of Tropics. One Friday night, my partner and I were attacked and spit on by an unruly patron (the Spitzco Kid) while the owner, Khan Brashir, was present and did nothing. The man, a Middle Easterner in his mid-30s with a flattened nose, stormed through a crowd and shoved someone, causing wine to spill on me. The following Friday, he pretended to apologize but then shoved my partner in the face, yelling because he mistakenly thought my partner was the person he fought the week before. He then spat on us, a disgusting and cowardly act, shoved me, and ran to his friends, continuing to yell and insult us. A staff member witnessed him spit again and kick my partner in the shin, and warned him he'd be thrown out. The owner, Khan Brashier, was called and assured us he would expel the man, but instead we saw him patting the man on the shoulder and kissing his cheek five minutes later. The man and his friend, a short muscular Brazilian with a right-arm tattoo, continued to taunt and threaten us from across the room. We filed a police report, but Tropics refused to provide surveillance footage. I have known Khan for years and thought he was honorable, but he proved himself a two-faced liar. It's disgusting that he allowed an elderly man and his partner to be attacked by a lowlife. We have been loyal customers for 20 years, but there are better places on the Drive than tired, old Tropics. The food, service, and clientele have declined since Khan Brashier took over.

The new owners have ruined what was once a good place. The quality and selection of food have decreased, while prices have increased. I used to visit often but have stopped going.

“Pretentious”

They said they improved the restaurant quality... No way!!! It's worse and more expensive. Watch out for their weekly two-for-one deal as a rip-off: the prices are inflated to three times the value. As for drinks, they raised prices and reduced the quantity by using smaller glasses.

“Tired or retired?”

It's a nice large space, but the dinner was very expensive and only okay. There were lots of older gentlemen and sugar daddies. They should host more events like other local bars to attract more people.

“A disappointment”

Tropics doesn't serve its clientele well. The service is acceptable. The atmosphere needs updating. The food could use improvement.
