Jimmy's HideAway

About
You have to look for it. A painted sign on Commercial Street's bayside marks a short alley and steps down to French doors. That's the entrance to Jimmy's HideAway, a cozy dinner-only spot serving French-fusion comfort food with a seafood bent. Owners Jim McNulty and Raife Menold opened in 2007, and the place feels like their living room: warm, relaxed, and not touristy. The full bar and small outdoor patio add to the charm.
The menu skews toward dishes you'd crave on a cool Cape Cod evening. Reservations are a smart move, especially in summer. Regulars call it the best restaurant in Provincetown, and many come back multiple times per trip. The crowd is mixed, mostly gay, and the staff is excellent. If you want a break from the bustle, this is your spot.
Located in Provincetown's West End near Court Street, this bayside spot is tucked away from the main drag.

“Totally Superb”
We discovered this place through an iPhone app for the area, and it's genuinely tucked away. On the bay side of Commercial Street (the side that mostly lacks a sidewalk), there's just a painted sign marking a short alley that leads to stairs down to a French-door entrance. Inside, it's a moderately sized but charming restaurant offering excellent food and service. We actually met the owner, along with his partner Ray. We enjoyed it so much that we returned two nights in a row, breaking our usual vacation habit of dining somewhere different each night. We doubted we'd find another spot we'd like as much. The owners are gay and often present, the staff is wonderful, prices are fair given the dish quality, and the atmosphere is very warm and cozy without being overly touristy. We couldn't ask for more. It's definitely on our list for our next trip to Provincetown.

“Hidden Gem”
A mutual friend of the owner suggested this place, and I'm really glad because we would have missed it. Plainly put, the food was fantastic. This is a must-stop. My partner and I actually visited several times during our stay in Provincetown.
