About
One reviewer described Pivo Riverplace (formerly Wilde Cafe & Spirits) as having autographed pictures on the wall like a 'gay Who's Who.' The American-style cafe sits in the St. Anthony Main neighborhood along the river. It offers outdoor seating, happy hour, and live entertainment, with a crowd that's mixed gay and straight. The menu leans toward comfort food, and coffee drinks get high marks. The space is also women-led.
Service can be inconsistent: one lunch customer reported paying at the counter and receiving food before their drink arrived. Breakfast is reportedly the best meal, with a breakfast burro that's 'incredibly delicious.' The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, though weekend evenings can draw a mostly straight crowd. If you are looking for a low-key spot to work on your laptop or meet friends, this could be your pick. See reviews and directions.
Located in the St. Anthony Main neighborhood along the Mississippi River, this spot is near theaters and riverfront trails.

“It was okay”
I expected more gay patrons. On a Saturday night, it seemed like only about 5 gay people and 50 straight people were there. That's fine, but I don't get why it's labeled a gay spot here. The food was good and staff friendly. It just wasn't what I expected. I guess I miss Vera's Café.

Service is bad, and the food is too expensive. But the food tastes great.

“Low key spot, great location, average food, below average service.”
I visited Wilde Roast for lunch last week for the first time on a recommendation from friends, who said it was quiet and friendly. Like most others there, I was working on my laptop and papers. To my surprise, I had to order and pay at the counter, got a table sign, and later food was brought out. My drink didn't arrive until I'd finished eating, and I had to ask for it. It's a poor way to treat customers, so I probably won't come back for lunch.

“So gay. And so pleasant.”
The signed photos on the walls read like a list of queer celebrities. Don't worry, though—this place is a judgment-free zone in an interesting part of town. Breakfast is the standout, especially the breakfast burrito which is extremely tasty. The coffee is excellent, and they likely can make any coffee drink you want, probably well. It does get busy, and the clientele includes families, but really, who wouldn't enjoy it there?
