Pappy's Smokehouse

About
The smell of smoked meat hits you before you even get inside. Pappy's Smokehouse in downtown St. Louis serves some of the city's best BBQ, with pork getting star treatment. The Travel Channel named it one of the 101 Best Places To Chow Down In America, and the place stays busy for good reason. Stick to standard BBQ fare here: brisket, pork, ribs, chicken. If you're feeling ambitious, tackle the Big Ben, a 6-pound mountain of meats and sides. Beer and wine are available, but for a bigger selection, head next door to Buffalo Brewing.
Portions are generous and prices are fair. Popular items like turkey and pulled chicken sell out later in the day, so come early. You'll also find Frito pie and loaded potatoes. The staff is friendly, and outdoor seating is an option. Closed Tuesdays and limited hours the rest of the week, so plan ahead.

“Fun atmosphere”
There's often a line during lunch since it's so popular, but the food is excellent and reasonably priced.

“Great place for smoked bar-b-que”
I enjoy dining here. The portions are generous, and the baked potatoes are enormous. They do sell out of items, so popular choices like turkey and pulled chicken tend to go first. Have a backup plan, especially if you arrive later in the day. I never mind this because I figure it means the food is fresh. The corn chip pie and loaded potatoes are excellent and among my favorites. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

“The Hog Whisperer”
They really focus on pork here, and I'm all for that. Any place that puts pork on a pedestal makes me happy. The place is insanely busy, but your food comes out quickly, and it's incredibly good. Standard barbecue items like brisket, pork, and ribs are available. Leave your diet at home. If you want to horrify vegetarians and go all out, they have the Big Ben, a six-pound mountain of pulled pork, beef brisket, chicken, ribs, and four sides. One downside is no beer, but you can go next door to Buffalo Brewing.
