About

Bar: Full barBest nights: Fri, Sat, Sun

One review calls it a "great place to have brunch" and the best corned beef hash in town. Mother's Bistro & Bar opened in 2000 by chef-owner Lisa Schroeder, a Culinary Institute of America grad who trained at Le Cirque and Lespinasse in New York and in France. It's women-led and serves comfort food classics like pot roast, chicken & dumplings, and rotating daily mac and cheese. The monthly Mother of the Month menu highlights a different mother's home recipes.

It's in Old Town, walking distance to Voodoo Doughnut and Portland Saturday Market. The vibe is classy but comfortable, with full bar, happy hour, and outdoor seating. Brunch is the busiest time, especially on weekends, so reservations are smart. It's a reliable pick for a date or a casual meal with friends.
