Unlike the typical cramped coffee shop, Ugly Mugs Coffee & Tea sprawls across a large, airy space with garage doors that open wide when weather permits. They actually make your latte or mocha by hand, not from a push-button machine. Local coffee drinkers fill the room, and baristas are friendly. It's a community art space, too, hosting live shows and readings. They serve drinks in actual 'ugly mugs', but paper cups are available if you prefer.

“A Dog Breakfast”
The classic breakfast sandwich with a latte makes for a wonderful Saturday morning stop on the way to Shelby Dog Park.

“Friendly Cafe for Coffee & Breakfast Foods”
You might wonder about the name, but you could receive your drink in an 'ugly mug' (though paper cups are available too). The baristas are friendly, and they actually prepare the drinks by hand instead of just pressing a button like many coffee shops nowadays. The food is also decent. However, what we appreciate most is the open, airy atmosphere. There are large commercial garage doors that can be opened when the weather is nice. Whether you're meeting one friend or fifteen (we host coffee meetups there every couple of months), you can always find a spot to enjoy your coffee. Free Wi-Fi is available as you'd expect. This is why we love East Nashville, with so many places to explore within a mile of home.
