Tamarind Tree
Refined Vietnamese cuisine and creative cocktails in the International District
About
Tamarind Tree serves real-deal Vietnamese cuisine in Seattle's Chinatown International District, just behind the Viet-Wah supermarket. The menu is broad, and dishes like the Tamarind Tree crepe (with seafood and coconut on a banana leaf) show the kitchen's creative touch. Custom cocktails use ingredients like lychee, lemongrass, and tamarind. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, with an open fireplace that makes it a solid choice for a first date.
Prices average about $10 a dish, so it's a mid-range spot that doesn't break the bank. The restaurant offers outdoor seating and a full bar, plus happy hour. Reservations are accepted, which is practical given limited nearby parking. If you're in the neighborhood, a stop at Toulouse Petit Kitchen is also worth your time.

“Good Place to Enjoy a New Style of Vietnamese Food”
This spot is in the International District, right behind the Viet-Wah supermarket. I was nervous about parking at first because there aren't many spots, but as you walk up, you see the unique design. Inside, it feels warm and cozy. The menu is big enough that you'll likely find something worth trying. I really like the Spring Rolls (they put a fried wonton skin inside for crunch), the Tamarind Tree crepe (seafood with a coconut flavor, served on a banana leaf), and some pork-stuffed baby calamari that were tender and succulent, though I don't remember the name. Prices are around $10 per dish, so it's moderate, but totally worth it. I'd definitely recommend it to a friend.
