About
El Paseo Shopping District is open daily, from 10am to 6pm most weekdays with extended hours on Friday until 9pm and Saturday until 7pm, making it easy to fit into a day or evening out. This mile-long outdoor boulevard in Palm Desert features over 300 shops, from high-end designer stores like Saks and Coach to art galleries and jewelry boutiques. Known as the "Rodeo Drive of the desert," it was envisioned in 1946 by Cliff Henderson as a luxury shopping destination. The district also hosts seasonal events like Art Walks, Cruise Night, and Fashion Week El Paseo, adding to its appeal as a cultural hub.
Summer brings heat and lighter crowds, but the other nine months offer ideal strolling weather. You'll find a Starbucks for people-watching, plus plenty of upscale restaurants. If you are looking for designer labels in the desert, this is the spot. The adjacent indoor mall across Highway 111 doesn't compare. A short drive away, the Desert Hills Premium Outlets offer a different shopping experience with outlet pricing. El Paseo is also dog-friendly, so bring your pup along for a leisurely walk.
El Paseo is the premier shopping strip in Palm Desert, a city within the Coachella Valley known for its resort lifestyle. The area offers a mix of high-end retail, dining, and art, attracting both locals and visitors.

“The Rodeo Drive of the Desert”
For designer store shopping in the desert, this is the only option. There is a large enclosed mall across the street, but it doesn't have the upscale stores that this area offers. It's like a desert version of Rodeo Drive. It's quite pleasant and I enjoy visiting. Update as of September 2009: a few stores closed due to the weak economy.

“El Paseo Mall (Palm Desert),,”
Whenever I'm in town, I always visit this mall. I love browsing through the shops there. I know everything is high-end, but that doesn't bother me. They have a really nice coffee shop where I like to sit and watch people. It's very fun and relaxing.

“Great Upscale Shopping in Palm Desert”
I agree with the reviewer who questioned building an outdoor mall in the desert. El Paseo is fairly dead and very hot in the summer. But for the other nine months, it's great for strolling and visiting the numerous upscale shops and restaurants. You can shop or just enjoy the atmosphere.

“Nice Stores”
Am I the only one who questions why they built an outdoor shopping center in this hot weather? The stores are good though. There are also a few restaurants, including a California-style pizza chain.
