Honolulu Zoo

Park · Honolulu, HI

About

An African Savanna opens the view to giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and chimps, with elephants nearby. This is the only zoo in the US established by grants from a sovereign monarch, built on part of the 300-acre royal Queen Kapiʻolani Park.

The zoo features over 1,230 animals in specially designed habitats. It's a small zoo; you can cover it in under two hours. It's a five-minute walk from Queen's Surf Beach and Hula's. If you have more time, the Bishop Museum offers deeper Hawaiian history.

“Small zoo in Waikiki”

This is a small zoo but it's a nice place to visit in a beautiful park—Kapiolani Park. It's at the end of the Waikiki hotels on Kalakaua Avenue and Kapahulu Avenue, across the street from Hula's Bar.

“A Really Cool Little Zoo”

This small zoo is on the eastern side of Waikiki inside Kapiolani Park. It's a five-minute walk from Queen's Surf Beach and Hula's Bar. I found the African Savanna area most interesting, with giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and chimps. The elephants, a personal favorite, were also great. There's a children's area with farm animals like cows, goats, and sheep. This is the smallest zoo I've been to, and I easily covered it in under two hours.
