About

Bar: Full barBest nights: Tue, Fri, Sat

Number One Fifth Avenue is a Hillcrest dive bar that leans into its sidewalk scene. Open windows face 5th Avenue, so you can people-watch from your barstool. The back patio has a horseshoe bar and pool tables, where regulars hang out and some cruising happens.

Weekends get packed, but happy hour is a quieter bet if you want a cheap strong drink without the crowd. The bartenders pour heavy, and the vibe is reliably casual. It's dog-friendly with full bar, free wifi, and a solid jukebox.

If you're bar-hopping, Urban MO's Bar & Grill is a few blocks away for a change of scene.

Located in Hillcrest, San Diego's historic LGBTQ+ neighborhood, surrounded by other gay bars and restaurants along 5th Avenue.

This is my favorite dive bar in Central Hillcrest. They serve inexpensive, strong drinks. The patio is great and the owner is fantastic. The drinks are cheap and potent, definitely worth mentioning again. Don't skip the holiday decorations, they are amazing.

“Dependable as ever”

This neighborhood spot has never been trendy, but almost everyone stops by now and then. There's a wide range of seating, from sidewalk views at the front to the horseshoe bar on the back patio, with the main lounge as cozy as any old-fashioned bar where bartenders pour generously. Weekends get very crowded and happy hour is often quiet, but even when it's slow, this reliable place is a great spot when you just want a drink without the dinner/dance/cruise crowd (well, maybe some cruising – especially on the back patio).

“Fun place to hangout”

Awesome bar! The bartender who served us was great, as was our waiter, the bar back, and the doorman. The other buff bartender wasn't very friendly or just shy, we think. It was our first time in San Diego and the bartender hooked us up with excellent drinks and tips about the area. We went to another bar down the street but quickly came back here. Ended up making lots of new friends and will return next time we're in San Diego. Go – you'll have a good time!

“ok”

There's no dance floor, so we didn't stay.

“A routine stop”

You'll find me here at least three times a week. The patio is great, there are cool games, the staff is awesome, and the clientele is fun and very diverse – from barely 21 to nearly 70. Best place ever for day drinking!
