Spin Nightclub
Dancing · San Diego, CA
About
A warehouse-turned-three-story party house draws a mixed 20s-to-40s crowd that comes to dance and stay late. Spin Nightclub (formerly Montage) is the largest dance bar in San Diego and one of the few after-hours gay spots in the city, with a rooftop deck offering skyline views and multiple rooms indoors and out.
The cover charge and drinks can be pricey, but the music and go-go dancers keep the energy high. Saturdays are the main gay night, with DJs rotating weekly. It's less consistent than the nearby Rich's, but when it's firing on all cylinders this place delivers a full night of dancing and people-watching.
Located in downtown San Diego, within walking distance of other nightlife spots like Rich's and Urban MO's Bar & Grill.

“Best dance club (when it's open)”
This warehouse disco, which has opened and closed multiple times, is the only club of its kind in the area, though it may not appeal to those used to the more glamorous LA or New York dance scenes. Formerly known as West Coast Production Company (also called WCPC or Wussy Pussy), it became Montage and then Spin, with each version featuring a multi-level layout including a rooftop deck, a second-floor balcony overlooking the dance floor, and several indoor and outdoor rooms. There is a cover charge, expensive drinks, a lot of attitude, but also many attractive men, excellent dance music, and after-hours service. When everything is working well, including surprise guest vocalists, the club can offer a fun evening of dancing, drinking, and people-watching, with easy access to the roof for a stunning view of the San Diego skyline. However, the club frequently closes and reopens, and different promotional events are inconsistent, making Rich's a more reliable option for dancing with the stand-and-model crowd, even though its building is not nearly as architecturally impressive as this one.

“So Sad”
This is the largest dance bar in the city. I really liked the layout and size. BUT AGAIN, we were getting ready to dance the night away when the music switched to some 'bearish overbassed trance.' Can management not see the potential of this bar?! If these dance bars are all that's available for dancing, and if the locals are satisfied, then I have to suggest going elsewhere.

“The Best”
There is no other club that compares to this mega-club. The best music selectors and friendly staff! See you there!

“Fresh Face”
I have visited Club Spin a few times on their only gay night, which is Saturday. They have fairly good DJs who vary by week, and it's also the only after-hours place in the city that I know of. This past Saturday made me write a review. They have a new bartender who is gay and extremely attractive. If they continue to hire staff like that (tall, model-like), I will come back every week, and he was actually nice, unlike most of the bitchy twinks behind gay bars.
