Hula's Bar & Lei Stand
American · Fusion · Honolulu, HI
About
Open daily from 11:30am to 2am, Hula's Bar & Lei Stand fits into a long afternoon or late night in Waikiki. This second-floor bar at the Waikiki Grand hotel offers views of Queen's Beach and the street below, with plenty of people-watching. It serves American, fusion, and seafood dishes, and doubles as a video bar when there's no live entertainment or dancers.
Reviews note friendly staff and good energy, but also occasional complaints about service and prices. The crowd leans younger, mixed gay and straight, with a straight-friendly pub atmosphere rather than a traditional gay club. Drop by during the day for the views or late for dancing and go-go boys.
Located in Waikiki on the second floor of the Waikiki Grand hotel, overlooking Queen's Beach and the main street.

I stood at the bar and was repeatedly ignored while the bartender served younger customers first. It's odd that they call themselves a gathering place for explorers, unless you're just exploring overpriced drinks and rude staff.

“Hulas is a very long-standing club that is both friendly and energetic”
We went to Hula's multiple times during our stay. The staff was always friendly, and the energy was great. When there are no live performances, it becomes a video bar with good music that's not too loud for conversation. It's on the second floor of the Waikiki Grand hotel, offering nice views of the street and Queen's Beach, perfect for people watching. It's our favorite gay bar in Waikiki and definitely worth a visit.

Hula's is more like a straight-friendly pub, not a bar or club. If you adjust your expectations to that level, you'll enjoy it. For such a beautiful, exotic destination, the Hawaiian Islands really lack any place with sexy gay or male energy.

This is your standard gay video pop music bar that just happens to be a short walk from the beach. For that reason alone, it's definitely worth a visit.
