About
Il Fornaio Coronado is open daily from 11am, closing at 9:30pm most nights and 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. That makes it an easy lunch or dinner stop while exploring Coronado. The heated patio overlooks the San Diego bay and downtown skyline, giving you an almost Italian-coastal feel with a distinctly San Diego backdrop. It's a huge restaurant with vaulted ceilings, an exhibition kitchen, and private rooms. The Italian government certified it Authentic Italian in 2013, and the kitchen follows recipes guided by Executive Chef Roberto Gerbino.
Expect a full bar, free wifi, and plenty of outdoor seating. The bill for four entrees plus drinks and dessert can run around $115, based on recent diner reports. If you're coming from San Diego, the ferry drops you off right next door a fun way to arrive. The place sits at the Ferry Landing, next to the Coronado ferry terminal.

“Great service. Awesome views.”
Excellent suggestion. Service was attentive, food tasty, and the views were spectacular. Hard to find anything to complain about.

“WOW!”
Coronado has a true hidden culinary treasure in Il Fornaio. Our server from Italy was a delightful character straight out of central casting, using authentically Italian hand gestures that matched the wonderful polenta on my plate. The restaurant is spacious, almost like a palace, with sweeping skyline views of San Diego, private event rooms, a full bar, and outdoor patio seating. The food, service, and presentation were all outstanding. Complimentary warm rosemary rolls and sourdough bread were heavenly. Our meal for four included a Bellini, two Italian beers, mineral water, fresh squeezed orange juice, and two desserts for a total of $115. I felt every penny was well spent for the quality and experience. You can reach it by driving over the bridge or taking the ferry from the San Diego waterfront, which lands practically next door.
