About

Walk into Joanie's and you'll smell classic Italian dishes like pizza and pasta. This Soulard spot is a favorite for take-out and delivery, with a casual, mixed crowd that includes hockey fans, locals, and families. People grab a slice before Blues games and hop on the free shuttle. The two-level layout gives you choices: downstairs is smoking, upstairs is non-smoking and tends to have kids around game time. It's a straightforward, gay-friendly place to eat, not a late-night scene. If you're looking for quicker options nearby, Rooster is just up the street for brunch.

Located in Soulard, a historic St. Louis neighborhood known for its colorful row houses and lively nightlife. Joanie's sits near the blues hockey arena, making it a pre-game favorite.

“Edible”

Two stars for Joanie's because you can eat it, but that's the only good thing. The crust had no taste and was boring, the sauce was just red and flavorless. Nothing about this pizza stood out. Maybe I made a wrong choice, but it was not good.

“Go Blues!”

If you support the Blues hockey team, this is an essential spot. They provide a free shuttle to and from the game for customers. It's usually busy. There's a smoking section downstairs and a non-smoking one upstairs. Before games, quite a few kids are upstairs, making it family-friendly. It also seems welcoming to gay patrons. I couldn't order a mojito because they had no fresh mint. I come here to eat before games and take the shuttle; I don't stay for the bar scene, so I can't speak to that.
