“Do NOT underestimate how cold it can get”

I told my boyfriend to bring warm clothes. He brought a thermal shirt and a thin North Face jacket... needless to say, he was freezing! You don't need a heavy coat, but bring extra socks to wear as mittens and a wool hat; layer a fleece with a sweater and t-shirt, and wear pants (not shorts), and you'll be comfortable.

“A must see in Maui”

When driving up, go slowly and stop at the sights along the way. There are excellent photo opportunities. The visitor center features a gift shop. At 10,000 feet, it feels like being on another planet. Amazing views from every angle. A must-see while on Maui.

“Maui's Dormant Volcano”

Haleakala is a dormant volcano, meaning it hasn't erupted in centuries but experts expect it will someday. On my visit, the sky was unusually clear, making the trip even more amazing than I hoped. Some people come for sunrise or sunset; I drove up late morning. The drive through different climate zones to the 10,000-foot summit was unforgettable. The main visitor center is at about 7,000 feet, and entrance is $10 per car. It's much colder up there, so bring a jacket. Notice how the vegetation changes along the drive, and stop at overlooks if you can. There's a smaller visitor center at the top with stunning views of the crater in pastel, orange, and purple rocks. On a clear day, you can see all the way down to the ocean. A fantastic trip!
