Seven floors of gallery space rise inside a former 1911 distribution center, redesigned by architect Richard Gluckman. The Andy Warhol Museum holds the largest collection of Warhol's artworks and archival materials anywhere, making it the most comprehensive single-artist museum in North America. It's one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, created in collaboration with the Dia Art Foundation and the Warhol Foundation.
The museum opened with a 24-hour celebration in 1994, and it remains a deep dive into one of the most influential gay Americans of the 20th century. Friday hours extend until 8pm, giving you a quieter evening to explore. If you want more Pittsburgh arts, the Mattress Factory is nearby.

“Mecca for Warhol lovers”
The Andy Warhol museum lovingly explores Andy Warhol's life and also offers a full retrospective. It's inspiring and captures the story of one of the most influential gay Americans of the 20th century. Kudos to this city for showing so much love to its native son.

“been there”
I've visited the Warhol a few times—it was okay, but I think they could do more to highlight his impact on art culture and local artists in the area. It gets a bit boring after the first visit. I haven't been back in a while, but it's something I think everyone should see at least once.

Even if you're not a Warhol fan, it's worth a stop. When it first opened, it was the biggest museum anywhere focused on a single artist.
