About
You might expect a historic building to house a quiet lounge, but Bonham Exchange is anything but quiet. This three-story nightclub has been San Antonio's go-to for wild nights of dancing, drag shows, and go-go entertainment for over 30 years. The venue is huge, with a main dance floor, a separate pool table area, and a rustic second floor that feels like a movie set. The crowd is mixed, including LGBTQ+ folks, straight couples, and travelers, all drawn to the lively vibe and cheap drinks. It's been voted the best LGBTQ+ dance club in town, and it shows.
The drink deals are a highlight here: $2 wells and $3 you-call-it before 11pm most nights. Cover is free before 10pm for 21 and up, $5 after, and $15-20 for under 21. Best nights are Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, when the energy is highest. Wait times at the bar can be long, but the three levels give you plenty of room to explore. If you want a change of pace, 800LIVE Nightclub and Venue is a short walk away. Just grab a drink, find a spot, and let the night take over.
Bonham Exchange is in the Alamo neighborhood, close to downtown San Antonio's tourist attractions and nightlife.

I'm a disabled veteran who visited here as my last stop during my first Friday cosplay pub run with a group. I was with at least 20 people, including close friends. Near closing time, those of us drinking started wrapping up and ordering rides home. I approached a security guard near the back coat check and restrooms to ask for directions to the front entrance, since I got a bit lost after dancing and drinking and that's the way I came in, so that's how I wanted to leave. Without warning, the security guard grabbed my arm and shoved me out the back door, slamming it behind me. I found myself in a dark, wet, cold alley. I've seen enough movies to know nothing good happens in alleys, or I'd meet a ninja turtle, but I didn't want to take that chance. I opened the door and said, 'Sir, I'm not going that way. That's not how I came in. How do I get to the front door?' He then pushed me out the back door again, making me fall and get soaked in some mystery liquid. Furious, I demanded to be escorted safely to the front where my ride was waiting. The guard escalated things, acting as if I were an active shooter, using all his strength to try to take me down and handcuff me. I'm a powerlifter with a strong build, and I told him to calm down, it wasn't such a big deal. I even showed him my strength to demonstrate this wasn't a major situation and said I'd comply for his peace of mind if he relaxed. I let him cuff me so he'd feel safer and I could show I trusted him, hoping we could start over. But instead, he body-slammed me to the ground and put his knee on my neck. I panicked because of this fool with a plastic badge. I couldn't breathe and was starting to lose it. I'm a veteran with PTSD and this was triggering me. While I was on the ground, the owner showed up and told me I was banned from the place. As if I'd want to go back. Police arrived and took me away without telling me anything.

“now this is a CLUB!”
Update: I've been coming here since I was 18. You need to realize that change always brings differences, for better or worse. Wells are $2 but $3 for a call before 11pm, and they can take a while to get. The line outside sometimes wraps around the street. On Saturdays, Energy 94.1 plays great music, from dance to hip hop. This club is very diverse, with lots of straight people, but it's a gay establishment. Free before 10pm for 21 and up, $5 after. Under 21 is $15 maybe $20. The light system is great but still lacks some effects like lasers or that cold air thing. Anyway, three levels of fun.

“One of my faves! ð”
I've been here twice. The first time, I won $50 in a tie at a booty shaking contest on a Friday. The second time was a Saturday, and I stayed all night. This is definitely my go-to club in San Antonio.

“I love this building!”
Overall, I really liked this place even though I didn't stay long. I love the huge rooms and the old style. It reminds me of a good vampire movie scene, like Dracula's coffin might be downstairs. There's almost too much space since not all of it is utilized, but it's still nice. It has a cool but narrow walkway by the dance floor, cheap cover, good drinks, and a secluded pool table. As a pool player, I've seen many poorly placed tables. The couches in the lounge area should be replaced with stools and tables, in my opinion. The crowd was very mixed, though I think there were more straight couples than anything. The second floor leaves much to be desired, but there's so much room up there. Very rustic and different. One and a half thumbs up.

“fun!!!”
I was visiting from South Carolina. It's a fun place with great people. The drinks weren't very strong, but I plan to come back.
