800LIVE Nightclub and Venue

Dancing · Cruising · San Antonio, TX

About

A small, dimly lit dive bar on the corner of San Pedro, just a few blocks from the gay strip. This spot is known for strong, affordable drinks and a pool table in a clear area. Expect a laid-back, cruisy atmosphere with monthly Gear Nights adding a bit of leather flavor. The crowd leans older and more butch, a welcome break from the club scene.

Regulars praise the friendly bartenders and the jukebox that plays actual songs, not non-stop dance mixes. The tiny patio is smoky, so non-smokers tend to stay indoors. It's a good place to unwind with one or two friends, but it's not a must-see destination. If you're heading to Bonham Exchange afterward, this makes a chill pregame spot.

Located in San Antonio's North Downtown area, a few blocks from the gay strip on San Pedro.

“San Antonio's best attempt at a Man's bar”

The Annex is a small dive bar you can escape to when you need a break from the chaos of The Strip. It is not the most attractive bar or clientele even for dive bar standards, and it is far from the best of its type, but it is as butch as San Antonio gets. All the bartenders are nice guys and very skilled. The drinks are cheap and strong. They have started monthly Gear Nights that have been fun so far. The atmosphere can be cruisy at times. If you find someone attractive to fool around with, this is a good place to get warmed up before going home. This bar knows what it is and plans to stay that way. If you like an older, more laid-back crowd, this is the place. But please, if you have a Fag Hag, leave her at The Strip. This is not the place for her.

“Love to go here”

Great bartenders, good drinks, small place but busy on weekends. It is the bear and leather bar for the area. There is a mirror behind the urinal so you can check out your neighbor's equipment.

“The Bear Attraction in SA”

I visited over Labor Day weekend and it was my first time in San Antonio. This bar was just okay, very much a small dive bar. I do like that they have a pool table in a clear area. The patio is tiny and smoky, so non-smokers should stay inside. The drinks are great, strong, and reasonably priced. The jukebox adds a personable feel, no all-night dance mixes here. It is a nice break from other places but not a must-see by any means.

“nice escape from club scene”

Small and dimly lit. It's on the corner of San Pedro, a few blocks from the gay strip. Cheap drinks and good music on the jukebox. I come here when I want a drink or two and to get away from the club scene. It's a good place to relax with friends. Everyone is nice, and the bartenders and staff are great. I've never had any issues.
